Wedding Inspiration – Edible Flowers

Flower Power Cake from Green Kitchen Stories
Edible flowers are a beautiful way to add a touch of charm to your wedding day. Whether you choose to top your wedding cake with pretty blooms, serve cocktails garnished with delicate petals, or provide your guests with edible floral favours, they will add an exotic and striking element to the whole affair! Roses, pansies and violets seem to be the most popular choices, and they look so very romantic, but your cake and catering vendors should be able to help you with choosing a style that suits your day.
If you’d like to try your own hand at using edible flowers, then please remember that not all blooms are safe to eat – Thompson & Morgan have a really great guide that should help you, and there are several links to DIY ideas in this post. Always make sure that they are fresh and free from pesticides and insects. Use your common sense and only use flowers you’re certain can be eaten. Remember it’s usually their petals that are edible, so don’t use the whole plant, and if they are not sugared then they will wilt, so choose your timing wisely (it may be best to get some help!).

Pleated cakes are everywhere at the moment, and I particularly love this kind; two tiers of colour, a luxurious ruffled look to the icing, and a pretty flower on top to finish it off. Very simple, and very elegant.
